Unofficial visits can be used much the same way as attending a camp or showcase event. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the coaching staff while you’re on campus and make sure you are comfortable with the campus environment.

When my son was going through the college recruiting process, there was one word I used to describe his attitude. That word was “picky”.

He was extremely “picky” about the colleges he was interested in. He specifically wanted a school that was relatively close to home, preferably Division I, great tradition, great reputation and extraordinary engineering program.

I thought to myself “Are you serious?”, but what came out of my mouth was “No problem, I’ll help you find that school.”

By going through the process with him, I learned a lot about how to target specific schools.
